Near-space video: France Delany New School and TEDxAsheville go 19 miles straight up

A great new video shows the result of a science project from the Francine Delany New School in West Asheville and TEDxAsheville. TEDxAsheville and the school teamed with local sponsors to launch a weather balloon 19 miles into the atmosphere, reaching near space and going high enough to see the curvature of the earth.

The balloon carried student science projects and a camera that took footage of the whole ride, getting a beautiful bird’s-eye view of our mountains in fall as it traveled 100,000 feet up. Check out three minutes: From Asheville to near space and back home.
