Keeping up with the latest moves at Mountain Xpress, here’s one that’s interesting. James Fisher, the alternative weekly’s long-time advertising director, has a new job and a new title. From Fisher’s page on Facebook:

Starting a new chapter here at Mountain Xpress! I am now Director of Business Development. Basically, I am leaving behind the week-in, week-out management stuff to focus on developing relationships of all types: regional/national sales, sponsorships/trade partnerships, and EVENTS! I am very excited about this opportunity-drop me a message w/ any ideas you may have involving Xpress and our incredible community!

The most interesting tidbit here to me is the mention of “national” sales. Since its inception, Mountain Xpress has been focused on local. Indeed, the weekly’s tagline is “Local Matters,” and the newspaper has been a primary venue for local small businesses.

Perhaps with the addition of big national advertisers – and their cash – the newspaper will be able to expand its coverage of local matters in some way. Thoughts?
