Mountain Xpress rolls with a big news day. The alt weekly reports:

The Rocket Club in West Asheville is closing. Details are scant.

-The owner of The Rankin Vault, along with two partners, is opening a bar/restaurant called the Southern in the Space at the corner of Walnut and Lexington that was formerly occupied by Old Europe.

-And speaking of the Old Europe, one half of the couple that used to operate the little bakery is bringing it back, this time on Broadway next door to Suwana’s Thai Orchid.

The more things change, the more they stay the same, no? Always fun stuff happening on the streets of Ashvegas. What else is going on?

If Old Europe is coming back, I hope they come back like it was on Battery Park. Their selection was so much better then.

Glad your site is working normally again!

    OLD EUROPE!!!! YAY!!!

K, so, I’m just a little excited about that. Best dessert stop ever, and hubby and I have been mourning it’s demise sense it happened.

I’m so bummed about the Rocket Club closing. My boyfriend and I visited Asheville last year and we had the best time there and saw a great band.

Just stating the obvious: this is the BEST one-stop local news site ever.
