Larchmont project passes first hurdle, wins P&Z approval

Mountain Housing Opportunities’ proposed affordable housing development off Merrimon Avenue won approval Wednesday night from the Asheville Planning and Zoning Commission for its request to rezone the property. MHO wants to built a building with 60 apartments. 

The project has divided neighboring residents. Some say the project’s scale is out of whack with the area, while others say the project fits in, and that it will help fill a gap in affordable housing units in Asheville.
