The Juicy Ideas contest, which started last year as a project of the AdvantageWest economic development organization here in Western North Carolina, has morphed as it prepares to kick off its second year. Last year’s competition was about creating something by recycling a plastic bottle. This year’s competition is a software development contest

Here’s the dealio, from Troy Tolle of Juicy Ideas, who sent me an email after I registered on the web site:

The Juicy Ideas Competition is an entrepreneurial software development contest where students in teams invent, develop and submit a web-based application for judging. The application must use a “yet to be announced item” to benefit their community and the team must submit a video that demonstrates this web application. The winning team for the contest will have the opportunity to travel to Mountain View California for a trip to Google Headquarters.

In a few days, the Juicy Ideas Competition website will allow teams from schools across the country, in the participating regions, to officially create and register their team online. The secret item will be announced at the start of the competition on the Juicy Ideas Competition website, Twitter feed and Facebook fan page.

You can follow the contest Twitter account juicy_ideas and by using the hashtag #juicyideas. There is also a Facebook fan page.

If you have any questions about the contest, you can contact us at [email protected]

That sounds pretty cool. I think the contest starts March 1, so watch for it.
