You know the drill: Asheville’s Highland Brewing Co. has held a home-brewing competition the last couple of years, and the winner gets to make his/her beer with Highland’s help, and Highland will bottle and distribute the beer. This year’s winner is Alex Buerckholtz, who owns the Hops & Vines beer store in West Asheville.

Congratulations to the 2008 Highland Cup Winners:

The 2nd Annual Highland Cup was held at the brewery on Saturday, 3/28.   Best of Show winners are as follows:

                  1st – Alex Buerckholtz

Smokey Mt. Porter – Smoked Porter

                  2nd – Alex Buerckholtz

                           Classic American Pilsner

                  3rd – Damon Garland

                          German Style Kolsch

The “Best Of Show” 1st place entry will be brewed at our facility and distributed and sold commercially by Highland. The winning brewer will also earn a trip to the 28th annual Great American Beer Festival in Denver in October.  This includes air travel

plus room and board.  The winning beer will be entered into the Pro/Am competition at GABF and served on the floor at the festival.
