Hemp will be topic for Wednesday Asheville Green Drinks talks at Mojo Coworking

Hemp_fieldHere’s the Asheville Green Drinks event notice on FB. The Wednesday talk will be held beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Mojo Coworking in downtown Asheville.

Presenters: Stephanie Teague, Timothy Callahan, Timothy Sadler

Stephanie Teague is the owner of Pretty Birdie, a sustainable women’s clothing and accessories company based out of Greensboro, NC. Stephanie was recently featured in the highly anticipated documentary Bringing It Home set for release July 17th. Stephanie will be talking about how she got involved with the film, her experience seeing the film come to fruition, and her use of hemp in the goods she creates.

Timothy Callahan is co-principle of Alembic Studio, an Environmental Design Studio. Tim has over 30 years experience in design-build projects ranging from single family homes to bluewater sailing yachts, intentional communities and more. Over the past decade, his body of work has primarily consisted of the design and construction of ultra energy-efficient homes built with local, natural materials including hempcrete. Tim will be talking about his role in constructing a handful of the first hempcrete homes built in America.

Timothy Sadler is a local environmental and social justice activist who currently serves on the City of Asheville Transit Commission Budget Sub-Committee, Sustainable Advisory Committee for Energy and the Environment (SACEE) Plastic Bag Sub Committee, and Asheville-Buncombe Food Policy Council Legislative Cluster. Timothy Sadler will be talking about his role as the lead organizer for Hemp History Week the past two years in the Asheville area and his experience meeting with several elected officials on the local, state, and federal level regarding industrial hemp. Tim will also touch on the current state of The Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2013 (SB359/HR525: ).
