Hansbrough will play two games in Asheville next weekend

The ACC’s career scoring leader, Tyler Hansbrough, will play a pair of games in Asheville next weekend.

The University of North Carolina senior will headline the ACC All-Star team which will play its annual contest against Crossfire Ministries on April 18 at the Asheville Civic Center. Ticket demand was so high, the first game is already sold out, that another game was added for April 19.

The April 18 game will begin at 6 p.m., and the game on April 19, also at the Civic Center, will tip-off at 2 p.m.

In an unusual twist, tickets are free this year.

“We had a board member step out and make it a free event this year,” said Crossfire co-founder Randy Shepherd. “We’ve got the first game covered and there were 3,000 people on a waiting list so we decided to go ahead with a second game.

“It’s a step of faith for us. We don’t have the finances to cover that, so we’re counting on the community to come through with a love offering.”

Shepherd said that around 2,700 tickets remain for the second game. They can be picked up at any of three Leicester Carpet Sales locations (one of which is in Hendersonville), at Arsenal Sports in the Asheville Mall or by calling Crossfire at 255-9111.

For these two games these kids finally get PAID to play, so I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t want to participate. I didn’t and would probably never go to one of these games though.

I certainly will not attend. I got the point after one try. Just wanted to warn those who have never been to one of these ChristFests – disguised as basketball games – exactly what they are in for. Buyer beware!

Sorry, I know it is Easter Weekend and that I am probably going to be attacked as being blasphemous here, but I cannot believe Tyler Hansbrough is joining in with religious nut-job Randy Shepherd and his "Children Of The Corn" Crossfire Ministries. It is certainly cool that one of the greatest Tar Heels of all time is coming to Asheville, but have any of you ever attended a Crossfire "athletic" extravaganza? How about Randy’s fire & brimstone preaching before AND during half-time of the game? How about when he "invites" people to come down onto the court to "take the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal savior", in front of everyone else. Just a wee bit intimidating and a waste of time? Yup! Heck, I went to see good basketball being played, not to be converted to Evangelical Christianity. Poor Tyler. Let’s keep sports and The Saviour seperate! Enjoy the game and the attempted brainwashing.
