Here’s some great news for fans of Gladys Knight, who has lived out in Fairview for a number of years and who’s husband grew up in the Canton area. Press release here:

The RHS Community Foundation is proud to announce An Evening with Gladys Knight and Friends, a benefit concert taking place on Oct. 29, 2017 at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Asheville.

The event, featuring performances by Gladys Knight, Little Big Town, Asheville’s own Lyric, and other surprise guests, will donate all proceeds from ticket sales to the Reynolds Community Center in Canton, N.C., just 20 miles west of Asheville. Tickets for the event go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at 10 AM ET through Ticketmaster, the US Cellular Center Box Office, and by phone at 800-745-3000.

Funds raised from the concert event will benefit the RHS Community Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Knight and her husband William McDowell. The RHS Community Foundation’s flagship project is to build the Reynolds Community Center in Canton, NC and sustain its programs for the community. The building, which once housed a school for African-American kids grades K-12, was attended by William McDowell when he was a child. McDowell’s direct connection to the community and its residents is what fuels the foundation’s goal to create a cultural centerpiece for Western North Carolina residents.

“The building which will house the Reynolds Community Center has a historical significance to not only my wife and myself, but also to the residents of the region,” says RHS co-founder William McDowell. “It once served as a hub of learning and support to so many people. I want to once again restore that foundation so that current and future residents of Western North Carolina have a place to gather, learn, and support each other for generations to come. The Foundation honors the legacy of my grandparents who taught me to leave a huge footprint that’s easy to follow.”

Tickets officially go on sale next Tuesday, August 29th and range from $55-$125 (plus fees) for general admission and $500 (plus fees) for VIP. A pre-sale for US Cellular Center and Thomas Wolfe Auditorium newsletter subscribers will begin on Friday, August 25 and end on Monday, August 28. VIP tickets include priority seating, a pre-show reception with Gladys Knight and Little Big Town, beverages and hor d’oeuvres, plus access to exclusive auction items featuring vacation packages, sports and music memorabilia, local business gift certificates, and more.

Tickets for An Evening with Gladys Knight and Friends can be purchased through the US Cellular Center Box Office, online through, and by phone at 800-745-3000.
