On Thursday, members of the public will have their first chance to see Anywhere USA, the independent movie made in Asheville by director Anthony “Chusy” Haney-Jardine. The quirky story won a special jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and features a lot of regular Asheville folks.

Tickets for the show at the Fine Arts Theatre downtown cost a whopping $50 per, but you get a champagne reception, and you get the knowledge that you’re helping the director take his movie to the London Film Festival, where he hopes to nail down a distribution deal. Haney-Jardine has also said that he’ll donate part of the proceeds of the night to the campaign of Barack Obama, so there’s another incentive if you need it.

Support your local artists. Support this movie (originally named Asheville, the Movie.)

    $50 freakin’ bucks??

ummmm….the economy has hit the skids, and people are hurting for money. as great a cause as this is, i’ll have to chose on the two bags of groceries that 50 bucks will buy (as if i had a choice). and that’s a shame ’cause i’d love to see that movie!!
