Around Asheville, and in Knoxville:

Knoxville area gasoline prices plunged below $2 over the weekend, falling to an average of $1.958 for a gallon of regular unleaded on Monday, AAA East Tennessee reported.

That’s more than $1 less than the average a year ago.

Prices as low as $1.72 at a Marathon station on Asheville Highway near Interstate 40 and $1.74 at Kroger and Mobil stations on Asheville Highway near I-40, according to the Web site Gasbuddy.com, where consumers report prices they have seen.
