From loyal reader Meghan:

Because nothing goes together better than firefighters and chili, Asheville Chili Chow Down 3.0 will honor fallen firefighter Captain Jeff Bowen and benefit the scholarship fund for his three children. The Chow Down is set for Sunday, November 6 from 1-4pm at Asheville Brewing Company on Coxe Avenue in downtown Asheville.

Adding more excitement to the event is the inaugural Fire Truck Pull where up to 100 people will pull the truck more than 50 feet on Coxe Avenue. Event organizers will be filming the pull for submission into the Guinness Book of World Records.

“With the addition of the fire truck pull, it was natural that this year’s Chow Down should benefit Captain Jeff Bowen’s family and honor his heroism,” said Gil Holmes, event organizer.

Premier Federal Credit Union will be at the event to handle all donations. Raffle tickets will also be available for purchase for $5 and include prizes from Asheville Brewing Company, 12 Bones Smokehouse, French Broad Chocolate Lounge, Chimney Rock Park, Barley’s, City Bakery, Woolworth Walk Soda Fountain and Lion’s Mane Hair Salon. The big giveaway is two rounds of golf from the Grove Park Inn.

There’s no fee to sample chili entries and it’s just $25 to enter your chili and see how it measures up. Judging categories include: Judge’s Choice, People’s Choice and best table decoration. Judge’s Choice winner will receive $100 from Asheville Brewing Company and have their chili featured on the restaurant’s menu for the month of November. Winner of the People’s Choice award takes home $75 from Jack of the Wood and best table decoration will receive $25 from 12 Bones Smokehouse.
