More on the Spruce Pine fires suspect
WLOSers said they got an “exclusive” letter from the wife of the suspect charged with setting the fires that devastate the downtown of Spruce Pine last weekend.
Pamela K. Smith didn’t want to be on television, but WLOSer showed file tape of her anyway from a story they did earlier this year on her husband, who said back then that his dog saved his live. Now the dude, David McCall, is charged with arson.
Smith in her letter said she wasn’t apologizing, just that she was sorry for the losses sustained by the town and local residents. She said people should wait for all the evidence to come out before judging. She said her husband is sick with a mental illness, but that she’s standing with him. Meantime, Holly Headrick said there’s a lot of mess to be cleaned up before things will get back to normal.
It’s hot outside
John Le says the heat turns us all into crying babies.

On Friday, the high temp at the Asheville Regional Airport reached 92, which was not a record. The record was 93 set in 1983, according to Mike Cuevas.
