Joe Martin is the former editor of the Cherokee One Feather, the newspaper owned and operated by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Because of the ownership situation, Martin was sometimes in the tough spot of reporting bad news about his bosses.

That issue came to a head when Martin clashed with Principal Chief Michel Hicks. Martin left the One Feather, and is now producing his own independent newspaper, The Cherokee Times. The newspaper is essentially online only.

The newspaper takes on the tribe’s power-elite in no-holds-barred fashion, while also reporting other local news.

Martin has a blog, too. It’s called Joe-Mart, where he dishes even more.

Give Martin a click or two and check him out.
