In the late 1990s, an Asheville jazz and ragtime gang calling themselves Scrappy Hamilton turned heads, toured extensively and released three albums. Scrappy built up a loyal following and played some well-known venues with some well-known musicians.

Then Scrappy Hamilton went away. I don’t know all the details about that. But I do know that the bandmates moved to Los Angeles, teamed up with some new musical buddies, and have morphed into the Truth & Salvage Co.

The band recently signed on with Silver Arrow Records, the Black Crowes’ label. They are scheduled to record their debut album with Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes slated as producer, according to the band’s web site.

That’s great news. All the best to the former Asheville band. Here’s hoping they come back east for a show or two.
