Haw Creek Neighborhood Association email newsletter here, from loyal reader Chris:

Haw Creek Happenings

Dear Neighbors,

Greetings from your community association. There are a number of upcoming
events of which you may be interested including:

1) The East Asheville Sidewalk Summit on April 19th (flyer attached)

For the first time ever, our association will be working in partnership with other East Asheville neighborhood groups to promote the cause of sidewalks and pedestrian safety.

As you may recall, we have had some success bringing sidewalks to the Haw Creek valley. Our most recent addition, the sidewalk along a portion of New Haw Creek Rd, was completed in 2008. With that success, our community has been asked to help others in East Asheville advocate for sidewalks and
pedestrian safety in greater East Asheville.

This is taking the form of the Sidewalk Summit happening Monday, April 19th at 7 PM in Bell Elementary School on Maple Spring Rd. Attending with be the Directors of the Asheville Planning and Transportation Departments as well as leadership from the North Carolina Dept. of Transportation.

Citizens will be able to provide testimony highlighting safety “hot spots” in East Asheville. If you know a dangerous intersection for pedestrians or a street in particular need of sidewalks, we need to hear from you.

doesn’t East Asheville first need to re do the entrance to the soccer park? I saw one of those kid refs trying to walk that road during the hourly traffic jam on Saturday – funny stuff

We have a state of the art soccer fields, but a hillbilly entrance to it. . .

they really just need to cut an entrance only road in from gashers come across the picnic area by the down by the river and build a bridge and into the 1st parking lot and use the existing road as an Exit only. Yes u loose 1 picnic spot, but u gain so much flow
