An earthquake has been felt in parts of East Tennessee.

The U.S. Geological Survey said Wednesday that a 2.9 magnitude earthquake occurred at 7:05 p.m. EST. There were no immediate reports of damage.

The epicenter was reported to be about three miles below the surface some 16 miles northeast of Knoxville. It lasted only a few seconds.
