For the past week, enviro-freaks with Direct Action have organized a training meeting out near Brevard to teach new soldiers how to fight what the group terms “devastating” environmental practices and a coming “blitzkrieg of new dirty coal plants.”

So these activists have been learning how to fight climate change with “direct action,” such as “climbing trainings, strategic action planning, anti-oppression, sustainable living skills, debunking false solutions, blockades, media” and much more.

Here’s more of a taste of where they’re coming from:

With extreme weather, massive species extinctions, and melting ice caps becoming a more urgent and dire reality each day, it is high time for us to come together to take direct action against the root causes of climate change.

Word on the street is that these trainees will be trying out their new skills on Progress Energy on Monday. We shall see. Whatever happens locally, know that these people mean business.

Here’s the web site with info.
