Officials with the Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry plan to announce the public phase of a $5 million fundraising effort to build new housing units for homeless women and children during a June 22 press conference. See the press release below.

Last year, ABCCM officials told the Asheville Citizen-Times that they had raised about $800,000 toward their project, dubbed Transformation Village. The officials declined to name the location of the project, which would consist of 150 to 200 housing units. The new units would also help the nonprofit serve more female veterans.

Press release:

ABCCM to Announce Public Campaign for Transformation Village

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry will announce on Wednesday, June 22, the public phase of its Transformation Village capital campaign and provide an update on the status of the major building project that will take hundreds of homeless women, children and families off the streets and on the road to self-sustainability. The project is one of the largest in ABCCM’s nearly 50-year history and will significantly transform the face of homelessness in the community.

ABCCM leadership, capital campaign volunteers and residents will speak at a 2 p.m. press conference at the Hampton Inn Asheville – I-26 Biltmore Area, located at 1 Rocky Ridge Road in Asheville. The Hampton Inn is located close to the 24-acre property that ABCCM has purchased for Transformation Village.

Transformation Village – a transitional living facility named in recognition of the transformative impact it will have not only on the lives of its residents, but on the community as a whole – will provide homeless individuals and families with a safe and secure living space and the tools they need to eventually move on and live self-sufficiently.

The facility will eventually replace ABCCM’s Steadfast House, which currently has a waiting list of more than 300 women and children.
