Maube trader joes will move into kit. And co. Spot at river rodge? Lots of room and off imterstate. East asheville could ise it.
If you will check TJ’s web site they give a list of new stores that they are opening. Sorry folks but Asheville is not on that list, for now.
Trader Joe’s should consider the empty Food Lion in Weaverville. People beyond the city limits of Asheville enjoy a variety of organic affordable grocery stores as well. All that remains in Weaverville is one big Ingles. We all get tired of the giant grocery stores.
Well, actually, we have one big Ingles, one smaller Ingles (about 50 yards outside the city limits, but close enough to call it Weaverville), and Wally World. And a rumor that BiLo is coming back to town. But Trader Joe’s sure would fit nicely.(Heck, I bet we could find room for Costco up here, too, if we tried.)
Jennifer, forgive my cynicism but this rumor surfaces every few months and has been doing so for several years now and it almost always involves information gotten from an employee from a store in Greenville, Charlotte, Raligeh, etc. In other word I’ll believe it when I see it.
I’d be as happy as anyone to see a TJs in Asheville but I find it interesting that some of the same people who complain about Asheville being overrun by chains are also some of the ones longing for a TJs. I guess there are chains and there are chains, but maybe that’s just my cynicism creeping up again.
I hear you, NFB. But I enjoy the rumor each time, and since I believe TJ’s is headed this way eventually, and since Ayliffe looks like he might be a credible source, I’m enjoying it this time, too. We’ll keep you posted about what we learn on looking into this (if anything).
I understand that they are looking at a space across from the entrance of Biltmore Park, where the old Shoney’s used to be.
One more strike against local provided food. It is bad enough we lost Greenlife to Whole Foods but do we need that low end TJs junk pawned off on us as gourmet as well? Sigh.
From my experience, Trader Joe’s offers essentially the same quality stock products as your basic Earthfare-type grocery store at about half to 2/3 the price. What you pay reflects what it cost to make any given product, like $2 for a container of quality hummus (just an example), rather than the $4-$5 you’d pay for the equivalent at Earthfare.
True, they may not be a great source of local food, but it sure beats breaking the bank for your bulk of groceries at Earthfare/Whole Foods. Also, who knows, being around so much locally produced food, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them bring in local produce/meat. All the TJ’s I’ve been to in the past were in larger metro areas so local food wasn’t exactly an option.
NFB, in my experience just from my own jobs, ordinary employees are absolutey privy to company info that hasn’t been made public. We’re following up on Ayliffe’s post, and will keep everyone posted. But this info was shared as no more than an employee statement, though it rings true to me. We’ll see. Cross your fingers, TJ fans.
Yes, I’m sure an “employee” at the Grennville store is privy to all sorts of company information that has not been made public yet.
Also, how is vandalizing a sign supposed to entice Trader Joe’s to come to Asheville?
There’s something going up next to Michael’s on Tunnel Road (used to be Goody’s) that I thought looked very suspiciously like a TJ’s. If it is, I will DIE. Love me some TJ’s.
That would be a very convenient location for me. Sweet.
The spot next to Michaels will be Kitchen and Co’s new location. (they’re on Fairview rd beside Rugged Warehouse now.)
Yep the locale beside Michaels is Kitchen and Co.
Well maybe TJs is going in the old Kitchen Com
that has been my guess for awhile. traffic to and from Walmart and interstate exit ramp access. Plenty of parking.
btw, I am talking the existing Kitchen and Co shopping center
that’s where kitchen & company’s moving to.
we need a damn tjoe’s and there’s no reason asheville shouldn’t have one! there’s plenty of places to put one in.
