wnc_alliance1The Western North Carolina Alliance, one of the region’s oldest nonprofit environmental organizations, has announced plans to merge with two other environmental nonprofits – the Henderson County-based Environmental and Conservation Organization, and the Jackson-Macon Conservation Alliance. From the wnca.org website:

We believe a unified, more visible organization will attract new members and help build a larger community of advocates for the protection of Western North Carolina’s precious natural resources and quality of life.

A new name and logo is in the works, following a strategic planning process. The new organization will cover 23 counties and have offices in Asheville, Boone, Hendersonville and Franklin

For some great background on the WNC Alliance, check out this 2012 story by Quintin Ellison for the Smoky Mountain News.
