Here’s some of what’s going on:

-Fred’s Beds closing on Haywood Road: The store is at 701 Haywood Road, not far from the exciting renovations at the Isis Theater. From comment on West Asheville Watch FB group:

The owner of Freds told me last week that he has sold the building to a nice couple from Houston who want to renovate to make a music space. He said he plans to be out soon, and is selling off all the rest of his stock.

-Dough coming to Merrimon: Took me awhile to put two-and-two together, but it looks like Dough, a “chef-driven” bakery and eatery, is what is going up in place of the building that once housed Compliments to the Chef at 372 Merrimon Avenue. Dough’s Brian Ross says on FB:

Thanks to everyone for liking us! We are finally under construction and looking to open in the early fall! STAY TUNED!!

-Break in the weather: Ray’s Weather says our heatwave will break on Tuesday when a front moves in. The high Tuesday, and most of the rest of the week, will be around 80, says Ray.

-Hot Stuff party: One of the best tattoo shops in town, Hot Stuff Tattoo on Haywood Road, is celebrating its new location. From FB:

Hot Stuff Tattoo Grand Opening Party! This Thursday 9PM, Dont be late or you will miss Elliot Moss’ BBQ. Also J.P. Harris and the touch choices and Brother Hawk will be playing starting at 10. Dont miss this! Best part is this is all FREE!!! See you all there.

-New owner for old ice house: The old ice house on Riverside Drive in the River Arts District is under contract to be purchased. The building right now is a favorite destination for graffiti artists and photographers who love the industrial decay backdrop for their pix.

-Tiger Mountain on FB: The new Tiger Mountain Thirst Parlour drinkery is now on Facebook.

-Gas prices: They’re back up after flirting with the $3 mark about a week ago. Gas on my street is now back up to $3.15 a gallon. Was good while it lasted.

-Joshua P. Warren museum: Whatever happened to Asheville ghost-buster Johsua P. Warren’s Free Museum, which opened up about a year ago? It’s gone. Vanished. Mystery.

-Big carts: Is it me, or have shopping carts widened along with our waistlines?

How about that cheesy ad for the AC-T in Monday’s living section featuring a photo from last year’s topless rally? Good grief.

Joshua moved the museum to the basement of the Masonic Temple. They will take you down to it if you take one of the Haunted Asheville tours. http://www.ashevilletourcenter.com/
