The local newspaper had an interesting little tidbit earlier in the week about the cancellation of Noveau Night, the annual wine drinking bacchanal that’s been happening in downtown Asheville for more than a decade.

Noveau Night celebrated the beaujolais nouveau wines, those easy drinking wines made from the first pressings of the grapes. It was all the rage back in the day.

But that party has been ditched in favor of a party to celebrate our local beer and food. The Asheville Downtown Association is hosting the Nov. 20 event, called Flight Night. It will be all about pumping up our locally made brews, beer that will be paired with food from local restaurants. It will be held at Fiore’s restaurant in downtown Asheville.

So if we needed any more confirmation that Asheville is a beer town all the way, now we have it. With so many local breweries and handcrafted beers, it only makes sense to keep it all in the spotlight.
