The city of Asheville has announced that it is shutting down several downtown streets and re-routing city busses starting at 2 p.m. today, New Year’s Eve, because of the sold-out Avett Brothers concert at the Asheville Civic Center.

Downtown is going to be mobbed today. There was never any doubt. Shutting down the streets around the Civic Center may center help keep traffic from backing up in Interstate 240, but it’s still going to be a cluster-you-know-what.

So, if you’re coming downtown:

-Park in a parking deck.

-Come early and enjoy downtown. Have a leisurely dinner. Enjoy a drink. Check out the fireworks. Don’t be in a rush.

-Don’t drink and drive. Police will be out in force checking on drivers as part of the state’s Booze It and Lose It campaign. Just don’t do it.

-Have a great time!
