Brenda Starr, that old-fashioned, hard-charging reporter of the comics pages, is getting some real-life treatment. The massive upheaval in the newspaper industry has even affected Starr, who still works for a cigar-chomping editor and for a newspaper called The Flash.

On Saturday, Starr’s boss told her he couldn’t afford her any more, and that she was going to be furloughed. Starr took off in a huff, upset that she’d been fired. The boss said no, not fired – furloughed. Starr ran off to do something, but nobody knows what that something is yet.
