From a lengthy Blue Banner recap of Hatch Asheville 2010:

While talking about his Prophetik clothing line, Jeff Garner had the women in the audience squirming in their synthetic cotton clothes.

“Our main obstacle is addiction to convenience and consumerism,” Garner said to a captivated audience at Castell Photography off Broadway Avenue.

Although he recently premiered his line during London’s fashion week, Garner’s business is based out of Franklin, Tenn. He admitted London was a culture shock, but it also fed his creativity.

Garner partners with a natural dye company, Small Dye Works, outside of Nashville, and emphasizes sustainable fashion from its very conception to its retail completion.

“We’re not making products to last. We’re a throw-away society. If a zipper breaks, the garment will be discarded,” Garner said, explaining the concept he refers to as “design obsolescence.”

He is currently working on creating biodegradable iPod cases made out of Nebraska wheat, which should release in June.
