Some of what’s going on around Ashvegas:

Airport auction: The Asheville Regional Airport is auctioning off items, but its Web site offers scant details, and lots of blurry pictures of computer equipment and hand dryers. O, and you can buy this exit sign.

Grove on Twitter: The hot local Twitter news on Monday was the Grove Park Inn giving away 96 free room nights to people who saw a tweet from E.W. Grove and called a phone number. Pretty slick marketing hit.

Gas prices shoot up: Gas prices shot up 12 cents at the gas station on my street – this afternoon. What the frack??? Time to go back to scooter-only driving, I suppose.

More donuts: A new Dunkin’ Donuts store will open up on Smoky Park Highway, in the old Krystal burger store, within the next two weeks. Stay tuned.

Energy Loop installation: The Energy Loop, Asheville’s first public art piece, is on track to be re-installed at a location along on College Street across from the Buncombe County Courthouse during the first week of June. We haven’t seen the metal sculpture one display in about two years.

Dripolater on the move: The Dripolater, the popular coffeehouse on Biltmore Avenue, is shut down and empty. That’s because the place is moving into the new Pioneer condo building on Broadway. It’s supposed to be open this month, but not sure when.

Cold weather ugh: Aren’t we done with the cold weather yet? Monday sucked. Tuesday looks great.

Don’t forget…gas was nearly $4 (or over $4 in some areas) just last September. At least it’s not back to that level yet. It will probably get there again, but be glad it’s stayed so low for so long.
