Some of what we’ve seen while surfing:

Halloween decorations
Here’s a cool Halloween website that lists haunted houses all around North Kackalacki, plus plenty more. Here’s a site where you can order neat window posters for Halloween or Christmas or whatever.

On another note, the Hendersonville newspaper says Transylvania County is cashing in on its scary name for Halloween.

Get involved in elections
Over at the Huffington Post, there’s an amazing project to get local people involved in covering campaigns, both local and national. It’s called Off the Bus, and it’s all about citizen journalism. It’s truly amazing. Here’s where you sign up.

Fast-driving attorney
Here’s a story from the Raleigh News & Observer about Harold Seagle, a 60-year-old Ashvegas attorney who races his Porcsche 911SC 80 over a seven-day, 1,230-mile test of driving skill and stamina.

What’s hot in digital recorders
We also found a tidbit saying that Clear Channel Communications in Ashvegas is using the FlashMic, a great stick mic that is also a digital recorder. Three Clear Channel Asheville employees have purchased their own FlashMics, according to the company that’s selling them.

Can somebody help this guy out?
Here’s the note:

Greetings: I’m trying to find a regional vintage police car needed for a film which begins shooting on October 29th in Asheville. The working title is “Grinder.” The car needs to be in the late 70’s to early 80’s range. It would be needed for approximately 2 days of filming but the days are not consecutive. If you have anyone interested, please have them contact me directly at 336-932-3441. I’m a retired officer, member of Eden Lodge #5 and the transportation coordinator for this movie.

Voter education forum
A voter education group on Oct. 27 will give a demonstration in Asheville of what it calls a “voter’s self defense system.” The nonprofit Project Vote Smart plans to show off its interactive road show from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. in UNC Asheville’s parking lot C. For more, go to www.votesmart.org.
