Loyal reader Lena sends me the following. Stop by and support Jake Freeland, a young Afghanistan war veteran who was injured back home in a motorcycle wreck. Abernethy United Methodist Church will holding a bluegrass and barbecue event on July 17th from 6-9 p.m.

Here’s the full press release:

Jake Freeland is a 22 year-old veteran of the Afghanistan War.  He proudly served his country for 15 months as a Scout on the front lines in Afghanistan.  He returned to Fort Bragg to serve out the remainder of his enlisted time.  We, as a congregation, were so happy and thankful that Jake had returned to the States safely.

On May 29, 2009, Jake was involved in a devastating motorcycle accident that has left him paralyzed from mid-chest down. Jake is hospitalized in Chapel Hill, NC and will remain there until the 16th of July at which time he will return to Asheville to live with his mother. Those who become involved in motorcycle accidents may want to get in touch with a lawyer to pursue legal action against a negligent party – www.joyelawfirm.com/our-communities/florence/

Abernethy United Methodist Church  is holding a Bluegrass and BBQ on July 17th from 6-9 p.m.  100% of ALL profits will go to benefit Jake and the renovation of his home to accommodate his needs.  Tickets are $6.00 and may be reserved by calling the Church office at (828) 254-2612.  You do not need to reserve a ticket to attend.  Tickets will be available at the door.  Please help us welcome an American Hero home.

Donations can also be sent directly to the church, made out to Abernethy UMC with “Jakes Fund” written on the memo line.
