It’s been awhile since I checked bankruptcy filings. These days, there always seems to be something interesting.

I recently found that the owner of Cherokee Hospitality Enterprises and Great Smokey Mountain Enterprises have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in federal court. The debtor is the same for both properties – Bipinchandra B. Patel.

The paperwork states that the debtor’s interest in Cherokee Hospitality is $2.5 million; it’s a leashold estate in an 84-unit motel located at 344 Seven Clans Lane in Cherokee. The paperwork states that the debtor’s interest in the Great Smokey Mountains hotel is $11 million, and the property is located at 2807 Hwy 74 East in Sylva.

I feel like I’ve run into Bipin somewhere in my travels but there are so many Patels, and I don’t know if it was Bipin B.
