I have lived in Asheville for all my life (almost 26 years). One time my friend took me to a gathering downtown. The man hosting asked the around 200 people there how many are originally from Asheville. Only me and my friend raised or hands. Asheville (scenery aside) is not what magazines or TV specials say. It is a boring city full of strange people. If you went to the Biltmore house, Grove Arcade, stayed at a B&B and ate downtown you did it all. Also anything downtown is way over priced. The drum circle is strange and way too loud. People smell, and for goodness sakes put on your shoes. There could be glass laying on the ground. My Mother says Asheville used to be a special place full of fancy shops and things to do. But now it's one high priced art shop after the next. I steer clear of downtown because I don't want to be accosted by a hobo for spare change. I feel sorry for any celebrity that comes though here since all that hype about Asheville is not true.
I personally thought Dark Shadows should be filmed at the Biltmore House. If they were here (Burton and Depp) they should have checked it out.

Also, it's ALWAYS an excellent idea to take a couple people's reactions to a situation & generalize Asheville as a whole.

If you say he isnt at the Indigo, then the employees should act a little less suspicious. Standing outside with a clip board checking peoples names when they walked in? Kind of made it look like he was there. Very over bearing with telling us he wasn't there…one guy wants an acting job in his next movie. If he wasn't there cool, but thats not how the employess made it seem. (I know they wouldn't want random people stalking there halls even if hes not there, but we went staright up and asked so obviously we weren't getting in the hotel. After that is when what looked like the manager and a bell boy came outside with a clip board.)
Anyways no sign of him yesterday. =[
who reported whom and to whom was he/she reported? can you take down a tweet?
So is this a hoax? Does Ashvegas have any obligation to set the record straight?

a 100% reliable source tells me that both depp & burton are staying at & have taken a tour of the grove park inn. we're not sure if they're scouting the area for an auxiliary shooting location or just visiting, but either way, they're definitely here.
So a former employee THOUGHT they were staying with us. But johnny and tim are not at indigo. I would know.

Asheville cracks me up sometimes. It fancies itself as oh so cosmopolitan and sophisticated yet it is as star stuck as anywhere else. Anyone else remember the time when pre-divorce Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman supposedly moved to Biltmore Forest? Or was it Grove Park? Or Beaver Lake? Or Town Mountain?
Then there was the time Robin Williams moved here or the time Steven Speilberg bought the entire top floor of condos downtown. Or was it the ground floor?
Ash's blog used to hold WLOS's feet the the fire and that was a lot of fun. Now it seems to be a daily reporting of rumored celebrity sightings reported third and fourth hand. Kind of sad.
I call first dibs on doing Johnny Depp
Stop the rumors at once. This is not true and you have been reported and the employee has been reported for tweeting and reporting false rumors. The film is being filmed in Pinewood in England with the set and up and running. Now I can see why no one would want to go to Asheville to film since some employees not only spread false rumors but may also lose their jobs. Take down all tweets at once.
Dropped off my daughter at Belk this evening for a haircut, then instead of wandering around, ran a few errands. When I went back to pick her up, she told me Johnny Depp had been at Belk during that period, according to the hair stylists who were informed by security. Dang!! My questions: (1) Why in the heck did I choose this one time to go to Best Buy instead of hanging out at Belk and (2) What the heck is Johnny Depp doing at Belk on a Friday night instead of being at the drum circle. Clearly we need to provide him with an orientation of the Ashvegas culture.
I think I might die if I see johnny depp or Tim Burton walking down the street. I hope they like it. And decide go glum here.:)

I work at Hotel Indigo in Asheville, and I can tell you that the information that you got is completely wrong. They may be in town, but they are not staying with us. I wish it were otherwise! I am a huge fan of both. 🙂
That's interesting and it would be very sweet indeed. Although I'm curious because they started filming "Dark Shadows" in London at Pinewood Studios last week. But, when you have the dough you can go anywhere at any time.
They've been filming Dark Shadowns in England the last week or so. Tim has some sort of event in the States tomorrow and Johnny's daughter's b-day is today. They're probably on a brief stopover via Depp's jet. Asheville is a nice town – wish I were there (stalking, of course)!
Gee whiz, I already seen people running in and out of TV Eye looking for them.

Wikipedia (for what it's worth): Directors Tim Burton, Quentin Tarantino[1] and pop icon Madonna have publicly stated they are fans of the series. As a child, Johnny Depp was so obsessed with Barnabas Collins that he wanted to be him. He is collaborating with Tim Burton on a theatrical film adaptation, in which he will play Barnabas.[2]

Apparently, they are scouting filming locations for an upcoming remake of the 60's soap opera "Dark Shadows."
That's great that they are here in Asheville. It's a great town and we should be proud of the fact that a lot of people want to come visit. Let's be respectful and let them enjoy their visit by not bloging and tweeting their every whereabouts.
