@lokel… sports programs are totally being cut. same goes for special ed, and honors programs.
"I wonder why some of the SPORTS programs are not being cut to keep teachers working, instead of enlarging class size and releasing teachers from their contracts."

LOKEL, for the most part there isn’t enough money (from the school budget) put into athletics to warrant eliminating sports. Athletics survive much more off boosters and the gate than they do funds from the education system.
I wonder why some of the SPORTS programs are not being cut to keep teachers working, instead of enlarging class size and releasing teachers from their contracts.
They’re doing the same down here to the summer employees, 4 day work week and no power between 7pm Thursday and 7 am Monday.
I work for Buncombe Co. Schools as well…
…and just as with everything that comes from Chad and the Stompers, it’s pure horse puckey.
The schools will keep the power on for the very reasons that you mentioned. People will be working over the entire summer at all of the schools. However, the work week changes to 4-day, 10-hr. weeks. On fridays and through the weekends, they WILL shut the power off.
Update – Just heard the news. Buncombe County Schools get to keep the power on for now. Head of maintenance told superintendent they had to be on.
