   There probably were 250 lay offs, but in different areas…I don't think there were 250 people working on the production floor before the lay offs…and the temp services laying people off at this time of year is totally normal, it is there way to get rid of the people they have amassed that they don't need during this slower time of year. The problem is that arvato laid off a good number of their employees…most people working at arvato work through a temp service of some sort. Most people employed by the company I work for have been laid off, but quite a few of us are still here, so we just hjave to see where ir goes. It saves arvato money to hire through a temp service, so I assume that many of those jobs they cut will now be filled by temporary workers at a half to a fourth of what their predecessors made doing the same jobs…it's crappy, but just the way it goes.

   As for the large number of 250, I don't believe it was that many. People were let go, including a very good friend of mine. The total between b and d shifts was only 28 people and I am taking the assumption that it was around the same amount for the other a and c shifts. Taking into consideration that the total included ALL types of positions from the offices to the production floor. I return to work Monday night so I will find out the total for the other shifts but my guess would be around 60 to 70 people all together. Its not as bad as 250 but these people are still hurting right here before Christmas. Keep them in your prayers!

   Yes, many people were let go yesterday, and there are more layoffs coming.

   It seems to be solely financially motivated. I understand that the business of making discs has dropped considerably in the last few years because of growing online digital content such as itunes, netflix, and other so-called streaming media.

   Yes, they are still hiring for the call center …. it is in the same building, but I understand it operates as a separate entity (but is a part of the arvato parent company).
