Here’s more of what’s going around, including the decision by Uber to end its service at the Asheville Regional Airport:

-Uber has announced that it will no longer offer rides at the Asheville Regional Airport, WLOS reporter John Le tweets. Uber notes that the airport “has imposed new rules for ground transportation providers that are not workable for Uber rideshare operations” and as a result will no longer pick up people from the airport starting today. In February, the Greater Asheville Regional Airport Authority approved a new fee structure for taxis and limos, as well as Uber/Lyft. The airport moved from charging an annual permit fee to charging a per-trip fee for ground transportation. The new per-trip fee is $2.50 for limos and taxis, and $3.50 for Ubers and Lyfts. Uber pays similar per-trip fees at other U.S. airports it services.

-Passenger traffic at Asheville Regional Airport in January was up a whopping 30 percent compared to January 2017. That continues a trend of steady, significant growth at the airport, which finished last year with just under 1 million people using the facility. Also, 2017 marked the fourth consecutive year of increased passenger usage. The Asheville Regional Airport is the second fastest-growing small hub airport in the U.S.

-The property that’s home to Christopher’s Garden just off Haywood Road in West Asheville is up for sale. Hat tip to loyal reader James for the heads-up. Here’s the listing.

-Asheville City Hall is 90 years old today. The building is considered an Art Deco masterpiece designed by architect Douglas Ellington.

Dine to be Kind, the annual fundraising event for the Asheville Humane Society, is set for Tuesday. Eat out at a participating Asheville restaurant and help out our four-legged friends.

-Jerry Wolfe, a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, died recently. Wolfe was bestowed the title of Beloved Man a few years ago for his civic contributions and his work to preserve the tribe’s traditions. The Cherokee One Feather has a news obituary here.

-The journalism nonprofit Carolina Public Press announced recently that it is expanding to cover all of North Carolina. Former Asheville Citizen-Times reporter Angie Newsome founded Carolina Public Press in March 2011 to cover 17 counties in Western North Carolina.

-Ingles recently paid $2.3 million for a 2.2-acre lot along Charlotte Street that it has leased for years and was once the site of an Ingles grocery store, the Asheville Citizen-Times reports. (That store burned down in the 1990s.)

There are stopping because of a $3.50 fee? What complete morons. Simply pass on the fee to the rider!
