-Hey Asheville, how about a brewery/sushi party bus? That’s how Sushikon, an established tour in Charleston, S.C., describes itself. Here’s more: “Sushikon is a one of a kind MCI Charter bus redesigned into a rolling restaurant. We visit local breweries while serving fantastic sushi on the bus.” The Sushikon website is now advertising that it will operate in Asheville, as well.
-Two Asheville chefs have been named semi-finalists in the annual prestigious James Beard Foundation Awards. John Fleer, owner/chef of Rhubarb and The Rhu, has been nominated in the Best Chef: Southeast category, his fifth nomination. Elliott Moss, chef at Buxton Hall Barbecue, was nominated in the same category, his first nod. Congratulations to both chefs! Full list of nominees here.
-The old Playworld pool hall and game room building at 219 Merrimon Avenue is finally getting remodeled and fixed up. Anyone know what might be going in there?
-Is Bar/Sub Grasso ever going to open in West Asheville?
-The Blue Ridge Roller Girls will kick off their 2017 with a bout at 5 p.m. on Sunday at the U.S. Cellular Center in downtown, Asheville Grit reports.
-To welcome basketball fans, the Capital Club of Asheville, located downtown on the rooftop of 82 Patton Avenue, which is usually only reserved for private events, will be opening its doors to the general public on March 3 and 4 for two nights of SoCon Basketball along with food, beer and mountain views. The event features a three-course supper package of local farm-to-table fan food from Asheville’s area restaurant scene with a selection of local craft beers, selected wines and viewing the basketball games on the big screen. The price is $55 per person and doors open at 4:30 to 10 p.m. both nights. Proceeds go to support the Kory Wawanaca Bolivian Children’s Home. Tickets are available online at www.capitalclubavl.com
– Asheville Outlets and Give to the Music will host a Summer Camp Expo & Busker Event on Saturday, March 25 from noon to 3 p.m. at Asheville Outlets, according to a press release. Here’s more:
This year the Expo will also feature a Taste of Asheville Outlets. The Expo will give families the opportunity to view booths and displays and meet representatives from traditional overnight camps, sports camps, arts camps, day camps, academic camps and more, while featuring family-fun entertainment including live busker (street performers) music, strolling magic, balloon art, face painting and crafts. The event is free and open to the public.
“In addition to the Summer Camp Expo & Busker Event, we are looking forward to showcasing the delicious food offerings at the center through our special Taste of Asheville Outlets,” said Sharon Morgan, General Manager, Asheville Outlets. “As attendees enjoy entertainment and learn more about area camp offerings, they will also delight in food and snack tastings from Acropolis Pizza Café, Woody’s Steaks & Wings, China Max, Starbucks, Beef Jerky Outlet, Le Creuset, Lindt Chocolate Shop and Auntie Anne’s Pretzels,” she continued.
The Second Annual Summer Camp Expo & Busker Event also provides a way to give back to the local community. “We are so excited to team up with Asheville Outlets on this event,” said Anne Coombs, Executive Director, Give to the Music. “Not only will this event be fun for the entire family, but 100% of the booth proceeds will help fund private music lessons, performance classes, summer camps and instruments for children attending Music Academy, Rock Academy, local high schools and other nonprofit organizations,” she continued. With the addition of the Busker Event, Give to the Music will further highlight the incredible musical talent in the Asheville area.
