Evans has a 20-year career of nonprofit leadership in public radio and most recently worked as president and CEO of the Public Radio Program Directors Association, Inc. She’s the former head of Western North Carolina Public Radio, Inc., which operated as WCQS radio on FM 88.1 until the organization changed its name to Blue Ridge Public Radio. The nonprofit Asheville Humane Society has been caring for animals in Asheville since 1984. In choosing Evans as its next leader, the organization cited Evans’ “broad management experience that has spanned everything from strategic planning, board affairs and financial management, to member services, donor cultivation, public relations and community liaison affairs.”

-London District Studios has moved out of its space on London Road near Biltmore Village and is planning on setting up shop at the Screen Door on Fairview Road.

-The Collider is moving from a funded entity to a volunteer-led collaborative network, according to a press release posted by Mountain Xpress.

-True Confections, a bake shop located in the Grove Arcade for the past 16, has closed. Owner Carole Miller made the announced via Facebook. “Thanks to all our loyal customers that have traveled along this journey with True Confections since 2003. There have been a lot of laughs, a few tears, lots of coffee and some delicious goodies,” Miller wrote. “Times have changed. Rents have risen, personnel have diminished and it’s not as much fun as it used to be,” she added. Miller said she’ll be available for special orders, and plans to be baking for “another establishment” soon.”

-Both Oktoberfest and Brewgrass are scheduled to be held on the same #Asheville afternoon, Oct. 5, this year. Brewgrass will be held at Salvage Station. Oktoberfest will be held in Pack Square Park.

-The Asheville ABC Board, after spending about $3 million to renovate a large warehouse and create new office space along Old Brevard Road, has moved into that space. It’s office on Broadway is now vacant.
