The great folks at Brusin’ Ales Beer Blog report that Asheville’s newest brewery – The Wedge – is set to open Friday. Asheville, as you all know, is Brewville, USA, with arguably more breweries per capita than any city in the country. And not just any breweries, but breweries that make kick-ass local beer.

The Beer Guy just confirmed the news. This is what he reported earlier this month, the first day of beer-making at the new brewery down by the railroad tracks:

Owner Tim Schaller and brewery Carl Melissas were both very happy dudes. It’s been a year since planning on The Wedge, which is located in the lower back level of the Wedge Gallery building. That’s in the vicinity of the 12 Bones barbecue restaurant.
The first beer in the kettles is Iron Rail IPA. Melissas will follow with a pilsner, his trademark Gollum Belgian ale, a bock and more. The place looks to pour its first pints by the end of May. This is going to be one great hangout for the summer.

See you there on Friday.
