Asheville’s naked bike riders prepare to bare

Asheville’s version of the World Naked Bike Ride is gearing up for some bicycling in the buff at 2 p.m. next Saturday, June 14. The group plans to leave the French Broad Food Co-op on Biltmore Avenue at 2 p.m. sharp. There will be body painting beginning at noon.

If you want in, there’s a planning meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at Malaprop’s.

People around the world get naked and ride around on bikes for the purpose of … well, I’m not sure. But I can tell you that Asheville’s version of the Naked Bike Ride has not been very naked. A few people take their clothes off and pose for photos behind the food co-op, then put on their thongs and bikini tops and ride around. The cops are all over it, too.

For a future to exist for tomorrow’s generations, we must stop wasting
the life blood energy of the Earth, stop fighting and killing in the name of
consumerist wealth accumulation, and learn to love and respect all life, and..
