A group of independent business owners in downtown Asheville is promoting the wearing of masks with a new public awareness campaign that includes downloadable signs for businesses, a photo contest and the slogan “Pro Mask = Pro Asheville.”

“If more people choose to wear masks, businesses will feel safer reopening, and we can get Asheville back to the vibrant city we all love and miss, safely,” the small business folks say in their announcement of the campaign and photo contest.

Go here to join the Facebook group MaskAVL. The page is where folks will upload photos of themselves for the photo contest, which has categories like Best Art Mask and Best Practical Mask.

Download the Pro-Mask = Pro-Asheville sign here. Winners will be chosen by June 15. The winner in each of the four photo categories will win prizes from local businesses. The campaign also encourages people to use the hashtag #maskavl.

The Asheville Grown Business Alliance, a nonprofit organization aims to build a strong local economy by promoting a “buy local” campaign, is the umbrella group organizing the campaign.
