UNCW found its coach on the 79th day.

One of the longest searches in the nation ended when the Seahawks hired Appalachian State coach Buzz Peterson. There is a press conference scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Friday in the Golden Hawk Room.

Over the last several weeks, UNCW AD Kelly Mehrtens spoke with several other Southern Conference coaches regarding the job. Peterson’s contract was approved during an emergency Board of Trustees meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Friday.

A source tells the StarNews that the contract is for $320,000 annually.
