Asheville Music Professionals is a new group aimed at helping local musicians get paid a living wage. The group has a well-connected leader in Jessica Tomasin of Echo Mountain Studios. Last year, the Asheville Chamber of Commerce named her entrepreneur of the year.

Here’s the note from Jessica:

This is a group that I’ve helped to create to provide education, advocacy, and connection and collaboration in our music community. The goal is to provide resources for all those related to the music industry. We will have monthly events, panels, workshops starting this month. Please like this page and share so you and others can take advantage of what’s to come! If you want to get involved, please message me and I’ll tell you more.

A new documentary about Asheville buskers, Buskin’ Blues, will be screened on Sept. 21 at The Orange Peel. Part of the proceeds from the event will go to benefit Asheville Music Professionals.

The creation of AMP is the latest move on the part of a number of folks on the Asheville music scene to get more connected and organized. The Asheville Chamber of Commerce is also working on a plan (marketing and branding) to increase Asheville’s profile as a music destination. More to come on this.
