The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that Asheville Mayor Terry Bellamy is considering running for congress in the new 10th Congressional District.

“I have been asked, and I’m not saying no at this time,” said Bellamy, a moderate Democrat who has served on Gov. Bev Perdue’s transportation panel and was tapped by the White House to help measure stimulus funding effectiveness.
Bellamy was recently hired as executive director of the nonprofit ARC of Buncombe County, which assists people with disabilities. The mayor would not say who contacted her, but she said people might be surprised.
A West Asheville resident, Bellamy said her house is within the new 10th District boundaries as drawn by the GOP-controlled state legislature.

Here’s what folks i’ve talked to think: If Bellamy comes out and runs as a Republican, she can win. We shall see.

I'm not sure who the people you've talked to are, but if she were to run as a Republican in the 10th she would have even less of a chance than if she ran as Democrat. In the 10th (an uber Republican district) she would have to run against incumbent Patrick McHenry in the primary and explain to Republican voters her support for President Obama.
