I didn’t attend the Faces of Asheville pre-exhibit last week at the Orange Peel, and I’m sorry I missed it. Aside from Jen Bowen’s cool photos of Asheville denizens, and Asheville City Councilman Carl Mumpower’s tacit support of the legalization of marijuana, all I heard people talking about was the amazing Russian aerial acrobats.
The Libravado Sisters were the biggest hit of the night. I’m not sure exactly what they did, but I have seen aerial artists in action before, so I assume it was similar — sinewy babes flipping, floating and twirling on thing strands of fabrics. So why haven’t we heard more about the Libravado Sisters until now? It sounds like they’ve actually combined two great trends in Asheville — burlesque and aerial arts.
I don’t know why we haven’t heard more about these women. But the secret is out. The Libravado Sisters rule.
