The Shelby Star has the story:

Goody’s Family Clothing is set to shut six stores in the state as part of a Chapter 11 reorganization filed Monday by the Tennessee-based clothing retailer.

And while that will mean the end to stores in Gastonia and Asheville, Shelby’s Goody’s will remain open.

The Goody’s store at Cleveland Mall is not on the list released Monday of stores to be closed as part of the company’s restructuring plan.

Shelby’s store, along with about 300 other stores not on the list, will continue normal operations, according to information on the company’s Web site.

As part of its plan, the company announced it is closing 69 underperforming stores, including Gastonia, which opened in November 2005.

No one was available for comment at the Gastonia store Monday. The store’s managers said they had been instructed not to speak with the media.

Samantha Cohen at Logan & Company, bankruptcy administration specialists who are assisting Goody’s, said late Monday that no dates have been set for store closings.

The Winston-Salem paper has this:

Privately owned Goody’s Family Clothing Inc. said yesterday that it is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and will close 103 stores and an Arkansas distribution center.
The company identified 69 stores it will close in 18 of the 20 states where Goody’s operates.
In North Carolina, it will close stores in Asheville, Concord, Gastonia, Henderson, Salisbury and Wilkesboro.
