The Mountain Xpress has the story, by Brian Postelle:

As the city of Asheville continues to explore legal ways to rein in predatory towing (see “No Parking”, Dec. 10, 2008 Xpress), the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce may take the issue to downtown property owners.

At a Jan. 6 meeting with Asheville City Council members, Chamber President and CEO Rick Lutovskiproposed that his organization approach the owners of private parking lots downtown and ask them to free up some of their spaces for public use.

I sincerely doubt that the Chamber of Commerce can have any influence on this situation.

Another case where the Chamber is simply looking for something constructive to do with their time and claim credit.

This should be the job of the City of Asheville, not the Chamber of Commerce.

If I were the victim of predatory towing, I’d file charges for car theft! I think if the police were to treat this practice as theft, i.e., a felony, it would end pretty quickly.
