A couple is planning to open the Appalachian Tavern in the former Northside Grill sports bar and restaurant on Merrimon Avenue in north Asheville. Northside Grill closed last year.

Early word is that opening will come in late May. The plan is for fine dinning on first level, with ore casual and sports bar upstairs.

Longtime Asheville residents also known this as the location for the much-loved Grace Restaurant.

Good luck to the new owners!

  3. This is exciting news for North Asheville. The Northside was certainly no gem, but it was the only place to watch sports in our neck of the woods. I’m hoping that this place will raise the bar on food and service from its predecessor. The idea of fine dining upstairs suggests as much.
