I just fly with Southwest from Greenville to Denver and back. So glad that SWA is now operating in the area! They are, hands down, the best airline in business. No bag fees, free to change flights, awesome frequent flier program, relaxed atmosphere… It'd be even better if they were flying out of AVL (I mean, their slogan is "LUV"), but GSP is close enough..

Erm….I'm flying w/ them in October. Hope i don't crash into the mountain! Thanks for the thoughts though. More reasons to get drunk before boarding.

And I also read that USAirways is eliminating its two daily flights from AVL to New York's LaGuardia airport.

The already tiny AVL airport is getting smaller and smaller, with fewer flights. The air fares at AVL are always too expensive and these service cuts (AirTran & USAirways) will definitely not help.

Not a surprise at all since AirTran has now been purchased by Southwest Airlines. SWA only recently started flying at GSP, and AVL is just way way too small a market, and too close to GSP for Southwest to even consider flying here.

I'm surprised one of Air Trans (AKA Value Jet) buckets didn't crash in the mountains. After the accidents they had I would not fly them for free. They might be better now but they can't erase the past. Just saying.
