Here’s the update posted on the Richmond Hill Inn’s web site:

Closing

Due to vandalism, theft, and arson by former employees, Richmond Hill Inn is unable to reopen on April 1, 2010 as planned. We hope to reopen in the future after extensive repairs caused by these problems. We are sorry to disappoint all of the guests who have supported us through the years.

That’s quite an interesting post. As far as I know, there have been no arrests or convictions in connection with the March 2009 fire that destroyed the inn’s historic building. The fire was ruled arson.

The owner of the property filed for bankruptcy, but I haven’t checked back to see what the latest is there.

Anybody have any more details?

Thanks to loyal reader L.B. for the heads-up on this.

I got married at the Inn in 2005, what a wonderful place. I still dream about the flowers by the Pavilion. It rained all weekend but right before the wedding occurred the sun came out. The Inn was just Heavenly, I always wanted to go back and dine at Gabrielle’s and bring our children. What a heartbreak especially for those that will never see it and its glory.

I certainly hoped that the fire, if arson, would conclude with an arrest.

Does anyone know where the fire began? I heard the sprinkler system was even shut off. Just wondering if anyone knew the evidence? Thankfully I never met the owner but the Inn staff were wonderful people who seemed to truly love the place.

Ah, the "vandalism," according to this: http://www.vixles.com/newsdetails.aspx?Id=47&q=&subcategoryid=19&city=&stateid=0&zip=
"Somebody" turned off the heat in the rooms, and pipes froze and broke back in December. I wonder who was looking to make something more from insurance money?

Completely unrelated, I am sure, in a letter filed with the court, Harleysville Mutual Insurance Co. said “The only reasonable conclusion that Harleysville can draw is that The Hammocks had the opportunity and motive to commit this arson,” the lawsuit states.

What a load of crap! To try to blame the arson on one of the staff. Everybody knows who did it, but they haven’t gotten enough evidence for a trial. I’d love to hear what sort of "vandalism and theft" he is talking about in 2010. From what i understand, there weren’t but a few left on the payroll, and that they were leaving ASAP. Maybe, he ran out of people willing to work for a pedophile.

I am infocat13 who has been writing most of the recent news on the Wikipedia page. I recommend looking at the bankruptcy court documents i have cited there entitled "transcripts"

This man needs to get his head out of his_ _ _.
The employess that worked there we dedicated and faithful. More so than the so called DR. that owned it. where was he when they were putting out the fire? sleeping off a raging drunk, and why was his hand bandaged? Oh thats right he had a thumb operation, or was it to remove burnt stinky skin. and if it was vandilism well they had no imagination. three or four trash bags found behind the cottages. and the only thing they took was alcohol—- a key card machine that you would of needed to get into the rooms of the Garden Paviloin (which didn’t burn) and childrens Video’s and the explanation was the person must of like electronics……….DUH There was computers there , there were books that where worth money, there were things more interesting then a key card machine. electronically a key card machine is passe’.. and childrens video’s uh hello…… don’t know about you but I like to drink cheap booze play with a key card machine and watch childrens video’s WTF!!!!!! It is not reopening because some one doesn’t know how to run a business.

It was an evil takeover by a morally corrupt individual with no idea of management and no finances to attempt it. Lots of info on wikipedia.com. NO WAY an employee caused that fire unless directed by or in cooperation with a (morally corrupt) superior. Gotta climb a bit further up the latter for the main suspect IMHO. Blaming the faithful employees for "someones" poor management and lack of morality solidifies claims which are found on wikipedia. The employees loved the Inn and would never harm it. No question!

Hmmmm, how do they know it was "arson by former employees" …. seems like someone knows more than they are telling investigators.
