A little news on Sunday: A fatal wreck involved a Highway Patrol trooper, street work in Hendersonville and a record high in October

Fatal wreck in Rutherford County
Kassandra Pride told us that there was a fatal wreck in ~~Polk~~ Rutherford County on Saturday afternoon that involved a State Highway Patrol car.

Kassandra said a 72-year-old woman pulled out in front of the patrolman on Highway 74-A just as the trooper was turning around to chase after a speeder. Kassandra said the cops said the trooper had his emergency lights on. The woman died in the wreck.

Work on Main Street in Hendersonville
Russ Bowen, helming the Sunday night news, said city crews in Hendersonville will be converting the intersections along Main Street to four-way stops on Monday. Roads will be closed at times.

Damn hot for October
Jay Siltzer said we set a record high temperature Sunday with the mercury hitting 82 degrees. The old high was 80 degrees, set in 1997. More of the same for this coming week.

Barak Obama in South Kackalacki
Russ said WLOSers covered presidential candidate Barak Obama’s stop in Greenville, S.C., on Sunday. It looked like WLOSers had a cameraman there, but no reporter. There really wasn’t any news out of the event – just Obama talking about how he cares about people.

In other news…
A couple of programs at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College have been accredited… And Duke Energy is cutting residential rates by 4 percent, or $3 off the average bill

What else we’re hearing about that wasn’t on the news…
A high speed chase through town Saturday night… A shooting in Hillcrest that injured on person… And a convenience store hold-up.

Actually, she DID say Polk in the teaser that I saw, as in: "reporting live from Polk County."

I definitely caught that at 11 p.m.

Cassandra did say Polk on the teaser at 11pm and the graphics said Polk at 11pm. Here’s a heads up Cassandra…Spindale and Rutherfordton are in Rutherford County. Russ lead the story saying a "Spindale Trooper…", Spindale is a city. Highway Patrol Troopers are North Carolina Troopers assigned to a county, in this case Rutherford…
Probably no worse than the morning show gal on WOXL last week saying that George Harrison was still alive…

FYI, the accident was in Rutherford County.
I don’t think ‘LOS said Polk.
