Night of 1,000 Easels will turn downtown Asheville into giant art studio on Sept. 12

Asheville, NC – On Sunday September 12^th hundreds of artists will descend on downtown Asheville, set up their tools, and share their creative process with the community. City of 1,000 Easels is a pilot program of The Asheville Area Arts Council to promote the role of arts in the community by showcasing the magnitude of the visual arts sector through a self-guided walking tour among individual artists.

Established artists and amateurs alike will have designated “spots” throughout downtown and craft a new piece of art between 3-6pm. Artists have the option to participate in a silent auction of their work, many of whom have chosen to donate a portion of proceeds to the Arts Council.

“Asheville is widely recognized as a cultural arts destination, but I’m not sure anyone truly understands just how expansive the creative community is in this city,” muses Program Director Graham Hackett. “To share the dynamics of our unique arts culture, we’re delivering straight to the public.”

Maps will be available through the Arts Council detailing which artists are participating and where they are located.
